Oyster Wine Tour
Offered in conjunction with bioRide, the tour starts with a private driver picking up your group in a Mercedes Sprinter (groups of 10-11). bioRide will whisk you away to visit two awesome wineries, both less than an hour’s drive from Richmond and conveniently located on the way to our oyster farm.
Your first stop is at New Kent Winery where you will get to taste some of Virginia’s most critically acclaimed wines. Here you can enjoy a variety of wine styles while enjoying their beautiful tasting room built with re-purposed timbers. Don’t forget to taste the unique White Norton, made from Virginia’s indigenous Norton grape. New Kent also makes a fabulous Meritage in the traditional Bordeaux style that you won’t want to miss.
Next stop on the tour is Saudé Creek Vineyards. One of Virginia’s newest wineries, Saudé Creek offers a fun experience where you can sample wines and enjoy a commanding view. Perched atop a hill overlooking their vineyards and the Pamunkey River, the Saudé Creek tasting room allows you the flexibility to taste indoors, or wander out onto the deck. Before you leave, don’t forget to pick up a bottle or two of wine to enjoy at your final stop, a tour of our oyster farm at Anderson’s Neck.
At Anderson’s Neck, We will give you the nickel tour of our working oyster farm. The tour includes a ride on our oyster jet boat out to our solar powered Oysterplex and nursery located in Morris Bay (weather permitting). Here we will shuck some oysters so you can taste the fruits of our labor, fresh from the water. You will learn about the history of Anderson’s Neck and how we raise oysters using sustainable best management practices. We will even show you some of our oyster cages so you can see oysters in the grow-out process. Please wear comfortable clothes, bring plenty of sunscreen, and wear good walking shoes so you can walk our half mile long oyster dock. We also recommend a pair of binoculars if you want to get a closer look at the birds and wildlife.
